The picture was blatantly sexist but just as puzzling was the title and sub-title. I was un-aware that having down-the-line conservative views, very similar to my own was a “problem”. And to ascribe it as a “problem” in such a singular and personal fashion? I have a highly opinionated blog and I would not for the life of me put up a picture of President Obama dressed in Arab garb (as he was depicted by several tabloids during the campaign) with the title of the post “How do you solve a problem like Barack Obama?” It would be absurd and in poor taste.

At the end of the day, all this indicates is how desparate Meacham and Evan Thomas are to save their floundering rag.

Newsweek is Plummeting! 32% loss in ad revenue in the first six months of 2009!

In 1998, Newsweek had the 14th largest circulation of any magazine in the United States. Today, Newsweek is in 26th place and falling fast. The circulation in January of 2010 is expected to be less than half of what the magazine published in just 2006. The total freefall of the magazine seems to coincide with the publication portraying Obama as Christ-like with his first of many, many covers in July 2007!

Newsweek’s parent company, The Washington Post Company, posted a $19.5 million dollar loss for the first quarter of 2009. The Magazine Division accounted for the entire loss. In the second quarter the magazine division lost another $5 million. The Washington Post Company is now hemorrhaging tens of millions to keep Newsweek alive. The entire magazine is being restructured and given new management.
