Media Bias: Newsweek and Sarah Palin

Liberals, Media Bias, Social Issues — By Harrison on November 18, 2009 at 12:00 pm

Would these scum put Michele Obama, Nancy Pelosi, or Hillary Clinton on their cover like this?  Like Palin or not, this just smacks of Liberal arrogance.  Newsweek’s “explanation” is completely dishonorable, too:

Responding to criticism from Sarah Palin that her depiction on the cover of Newsweek was “sexist and oh-so-expected,” editor Jon Meacham insists that there is nothing either derogatory or nefarious about the image.

“We chose the most interesting image available to us to illustrate the theme of the cover, which is what we always try to do,” Meacham said, in a statement provided to Huffington Post. “We apply the same test to photographs of any public figure, male or female: does the image convey what we are saying? That is a gender-neutral standard.”

Newsweek has turned into a cheap propoganda rag.  Just a few days ago we had this story to go along with their cover photo hypocrisy:

74% of letters to Newsweek on Gore are critical; published – Zero

She and Newsweek will get a lot of publicity because of this though.

Someone will make a lot of money.

I lost respect for Newsweak (not mis-spelled) long ago; The rag is essentially a dumb downed version of MSNBC–if that can be possible.

      Some facts about Newsweek:

Newsweek is Plummeting! 32% loss in ad revenue in the first six months of 2009!

In 1998, Newsweek had the 14th largest circulation of any magazine in the United States. Today, Newsweek is in 26th place and falling fast. The circulation in January of 2010 is expected to be less than half of what the magazine published in just 2006. The total freefall of the magazine seems to coincide with the publication portraying Obama as Christ-like with his first of many, many covers in July 2007!

Newsweek’s parent company, The Washington Post Company, posted a $19.5 million dollar loss for the first quarter of 2009. The Magazine Division accounted for the entire loss. In the second quarter the magazine division lost another $5 million. The Washington Post Company is now hemorrhaging tens of millions to keep Newsweek alive. The entire magazine is being restructured and given new management.

    M. Obama, Pelosi, Clinton in running shorts..? Thank god for small miracles.

The picture was blatantly sexist but just as puzzling was the title and sub-title. I was un-aware that having down-the-line conservative views, very similar to my own was a “problem”. And to ascribe it as a “problem” in such a singular and personal fashion? I have a highly opinionated blog and I would not for the life of me put up a picture of President Obama dressed in Arab garb (as he was depicted by several tabloids during the campaign) with the title of the post “How do you solve a problem like Barack Obama?” It would be absurd and in poor taste.

At the end of the day, all this indicates is how desparate Meacham and Evan Thomas are to save their floundering rag.

The further Left Newsweek goes the more their subscriptions and revenue drops. I hope the continue down this course until the Washington Post gets sick of taking losses on their rag and puts it up for sale or, better yet, Rupert Murdoch buys it! Worked for the WSJ’s circulation, didn’t it?
