Claudia, you say God forbids Americans bowing to others? Well, not really. It’s more like, that God wants us bowing only to Him (that’s with a capitol “H”). Btw, this whole American-Muslim-president-screwing-Israel-thing.. Well, God doesn’t like THAT so much. Funny thing about it is, is that Obama is only here to a finish a process that was started a long time ago by American-non-Muslim presidents and an all-too-willing global community. And yet, the world (majoritivly speaking) just keeps playing with fire like nothing is going on, go figure. Well, Americans may want to stop bowing before Obama and the rest of the world, before it’s too late, because we ALL have only ONE creator. Get it?

But the reality will be.. “No, they can’t.”
Did we take notice that Obama, the Arabs, and the United Nations together (birds of a feather) have just recently called for Israel to give up more of their land. That’s right, they said that no more negotiations over the Arabs needing to stop their terrorism against Israel before they can have their own Palestinian state. They actually expect Israel to commit suicide.. lol, good luck with that!
Oh well, some lessons will just have to be learned the hard way I guess. Shame, shame.

Before you start talking about terrorism being committed by Israel, I suggest you look up the history of the Middle East. What Israel is doing to Palestine is shocking. I cannot believe that after surviving the Holocaust, that the Jewish leaders are so quick to put another group of people through such wide suffering. What Israel is doing in Palestine is wrong.
If you are really interested in finding out more, then read the Chomsky article I re-posted on my blog. He touches on just a bit of the hypocrisy surrounding our alliance with Israel.

Oh common. This is ridiculous.
If you think that Obama bowing is a bad thing, just like his middle name being Hussein is a negative thing, then that’s a stereotype you have to deal with yourself.
It is a culturally accepted thing to do what he did. When you visit foreign countries, you embrace their cultures. You always follow the rules of the master of the house, even if you are the President of United States.
This ideal that United States stands above the world, and that Obama bowing is a shame or disgrace is absolutely ridiculous.
Finally, the definitions. Remember Harrison, we chose what the words mean. We can always choose bow to mean something else. I see it as extending a hand to the rest of the world, that has been slighted by our previous presidency. Just because we have egos, doesn’t mean the rest of the world doesn’t. This was a great move by Obama.

How did the “previous presidency” slight Japan? Have you ever seen a photo of a U.S. president bowing like that to a foreign leader? In diplomacy these things matter and what he did was improper.
It’s improper in our culture because we see bowing as paying homage to the king. In Asian cultures, especially Japanese culture, it is as sign of respect and is expected etiquette. To them it is virtually equivalent of shaking hands. I think instead of rushing to criticize Obama, we should instead see what he did within the context he was in.

I know of no other US president who has done that. And he did the same thing to the Saudis. Bowing before the Emperor of Japan, whom they believe is chosen by god, is a little more significant than “when in Rome do as the Romans do.”

I was raised Christian Orthodox, although I am not religious.
And what truth are you referring too? That Obama loses all his negotiating power by bowing? By taking his time and learning the customs of the country he’s visiting he’s shaming and dishonoring United States?
Obama’s bow was a gesture of respect. Some people think it was a great diplomatic move. Because it’s something you see as negative that’s your stereotype to deal with.

It was a brilliant negotiating tactic! It will let everybody know what a rube we have in office and how they can walk all over him! This will save Obama a lot of time as other world leaders can just use him quickly instead of laying the groundwork for later deception. It worked for Hitler and Chamberlain.

With all due respect, I’m not sure I understand the connection between President Obama supposedly being a Muslim and his bowing to the Emporer of Japan.
It had to do with a separate converstation I was having with Golden, Harrison. My links in the last post were put in backwards, maybe thats where you became confused? Well, if you checked out both links, those were just 2 examples of why I think Obama is a Muslim..there are more reasons why, but this is not my main point because there are some good Muslims in the world too.. afterall not all Muslims follow what is written in the Koran. But, Obama is playing al-taqiyya, IMHO
Harrison, I realize that you and I are just going to disagree on the bow issue. Let’s save the debate for something else.
