Guess What Obama’s Talking About!

Diplomacy — By Harrison on June 24, 2009 at 12:00 pm

What President Obama said on Tuesday June 23, 2009:

“Because I think that we don’t know yet how this thing is going to play out.”

What do you think he was talking about?

A. B.

A college football game.

First date with a girl who doesnt know how to bowl.

Date with a girl who doesn't know how to bowl.

C. D.

Passing socialized medicine (I mean healthcare reform).

Socialized Medicine (I mean healthcare reform).

Iranian presidential election protests.

Iranian presidential election protests.

If you said “B.” you weren’t correct.  He actually was talking about the violence going on in Iran.  His words were in response to this question by CBS’s Chris Todd:

“Then why won’t you spell out the consequences that the Iranian people…”

The word “leadership” usually means taking the lead, as in being first, or one of the first, or providing guidance.  Coming up with a political position when you don’t know how the situation will play out would probably qualify as “leadership.”

Perhaps it was just a poor choice of words from President Obama during his forth solo news conference but judging by his slow response to the Iran situation thus far I think not.

Hope you answered the quiz correctly!

Harrison, leadership doesn’t mean warfare. He simple is being cautious, and as I predicted, it’s now the UK who the IR blames for the riots in Iran, not the USA.
I’m still surprised that an alcoholic as G.W. Bush Jr. could be a president of one of the the militairy powers on earth and created so much trouble on social, economical, political level. Everybody is paying the price for it, especially Americans. Europe is as alive as ever, and the USA has to pay the price for an over spending Rep government. It are the Republicans who spent much more on government spendings than the democrats. History and facts proved it over and over again.
Btw, each country which has a nuke is a mil super power, doesnt matter how many you have.

Hans, in case you didn’t read the news the mullahs in Iran have been blaming it on the CIA. Obama could have said he hoped the protesters failed and the U.S. would still be blamed.

As for the rest of your comments… pure boiler plate stuff!

    • Harrison says:

Yea Gore was so concerned with the “democratic process” that’s why he only challenged in areas he thought he could win, right?

Harrison, I did answer your quiz correctly. Do I get a prize?

What would you suggest in the “leadership” department? Another Operation Ajax, where we toppled a democratically elected Iranian prime minister and installed the shah?

I think that this is something for the Iranians to sort out on their own. We don’t have the greatest record on presidential elections here either. Remember 2000?

    • Harrison says:

There will be an article about Operation Ajax where the Soviet Union was going to topple the Iranian government and install a dictator… if you think living under the thumb of the Soviet Union would have been fun check out Eastern Europe.

You do get a prize. I am currently looking for a preservative packed rice pudding for you!

Yeah I remember 2000… no shootings in the street, no dissidents jailed, and things decided by a court of law and candidates not picked by a religious council of elders.

  • Politicus says:

I will not go into details here, but I am very sure that I am more familiar with the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe that you will ever be.

We probably should have had shooting in the streets, as the “president” was court-appointed, not elected.

And thank you kindly for the lovely prize. I will send it to Rush. It might help him digest the prescription painkillers better.

Harisson, yes, in the end you get the good old rethoric ‘blame it on the CİA’ but the focus is now on the bad British!

Iranian mullahs will “blame” America more than anybody else as long as they are in power, regardless of what our leaders say or don’t say.

  • Harrison,
You have got to be kidding. We don’t need to stick our nose in Iran’s business. It’s high time we leave other countries alone to solve their own problems, even if it doesn’t work out so well for us. Leadership is knowing when to exercise caution in word and deed, something this country has lacked for the last 8 years. Let wisdom prevail! With so many domestic issues on the table, you can attack Obama on those things. You don’t need to go out of your way to take a moronic position on Iran.

    • Harrison says:

Yeah I was so off base after a weekend of saying hardly anything Obama gave into “critics” and actually used the word “condemn.” Guess what, the sky didn’t fall.
