Conservatives Large in Number… Will it Translate to Republicans?

An interesting poll just released by the Gallup organization regarding the political beliefs of Americans. Will the results translate into support for Republicans during the next election cycle?
The most recent presidential election was, overall, fairly close but it remains to be seen whether Republicans can capture the support of the crucial “moderate” voter in their quest to re-gain political power. What this poll does re-inforce, however, is that the United States is still a Conservative-leaning nation and that any candidate that tries to introduce Socialist ideas into their agenda does so at their own peril.

Define ’socialist’ ideas to me.

Single payer healthcare is one example. “Socialism” is not an matter of having a specific program passed. In France the 35 hour work week is a Socialist idea (and one that hasn’t worked too well, either).
The 2010 midterm elections are going to be very interesting.

I must admit the results of this poll came as a big surprise to me, with more people identifying themselves as “conservative” than as “moderate”. Maybe what the polls are confirming is that the 2008 election was more about “punishing” Bush than about electing Obama. If this proves to be true, President Obama is going to have a very difficult time getting health care reform passed any time soon.

I think these results are only a surprise to some because things like this are not reported nor does our news reflect these types of views. One reason why newspapers are going down the toilet, I think, is because you have over 50% of the population not seeing their values reflected in their city’s papers. That’s why I stopped reading my local paper and cancelled my subscription to Time and Newsweek.
