A Stimulating Experience?

If only it were so.  The massive $800 billion plus bill which looks to become law soon will only stimulate the Democrats to further push this country towards socialism and needless waste.  Case in point?  Acording to the Wall Street Journal the Milwaukee Public School system

for example, would receive $88.6 million over two years for new construction projects under the House version of the stimulus — even though the district currently has 15 vacant school buildings and declining enrollment.

The way the “stimulus” bill is written, the Milwaukee Public School system can only use the money to build more buildings not to help students with financial aid should they decide to attend private schools.  But they already have 15 vacant school buildings!

Furthermore, “take the $142 billion for schools, which is nearly double the total outlays of the Department of Education in 2007.”  How is this going to create jobs and increase economic activity again?

And what is President Obama doing to soothe fears that all of this money is going to be wasted?  He called the delay in passing this bill “inexcusable and irresponsible.”  A bill that would spend more money than everything spent by the U.S. since 9/11 on Irag and Afganistan should be rushed through Congress so the money can just be doled out?  Didn’t the Democrats heavily critisize former President George W. Bush for “rushing” into Iraq (once things started going badly for the U.S.)?  Are we not “rushing” into another situation without all of the facts?

A large percentage of this “stimulus” bill will, in fact, not even take effect for many months and many of the places the money goes will in fact take years to be spent, not to mention the support funding needed once the original monies run out, thus creating even more government spending down the road.

Obviously the Democrats think one thing about “rushing” into Iraq once things started going badly for the U.S. but they think it’s okay to “rush” this stimulus program through Congress (probably because they get to push their agenda through in a time of panic).

What’s good for the goose, it seems, is not good for the gander.
